App settings
Installation, your selection of sections, appearance and saving settings.
Install and choose a release
- Open Download and choose Android or Windows for your device.
- For everyday use, choose the stable version. To help test new features, choose the separately labeled beta.
- On Android, open the downloaded APK and confirm installation. If the system asks to allow installation from this source, grant permission to the app you used to open the file.
- Open SHIKARDOS. Keep existing app data when updating: you do not need to uninstall the app before a normal update.
The player opens; its installed version number is shown in Settings → About.
Why a new beta does not arrive as an update
- Check your version number in Settings.
- If you have the stable version, “You have the latest version” refers to stable releases.
- To try a beta, open Download, choose the beta for your platform and install it deliberately.
- Save your settings to a file before switching. Keep your previous version number too: it will help if you request support.
You know which release is installed. The player does not move a stable installation to beta automatically.
Build your SHIKARDOS
- Find the Edition row in Settings. Open “Build your SHIKARDOS” beneath it. This window opens automatically on first launch.
- Choose sections: Music, Radio, Video and Photos. A new installation starts with music only.
- In the separate Equalizers block, select GEq (slider bands), PEq (precise bands for your listening) or SHIKARDOS ORBITAL technologies (one point on an orbit). You can select one, two or all three.
- For a simple setup, tap “Music only”. Without equalizers, their components do not start; for direct output, also check the device's audio path.
- Tap “Done”. Return to the build at any time to change your selections.
Clearing a checkbox hides a section without deleting anything. Updates preserve your previous selection.
Grant only the permissions you need
- Open the permissions section in SHIKARDOS Settings.
- Allow music access for the library. Unusual formats and selected folders may require access to all files.
- If a required item says “Not granted”, tap it and complete the action in Android settings.
- Allow camera and microphone access when recording; allow exact alarms when setting an alarm.
The player receives access for the action you chose. The requested permissions vary between Android versions.
Appearance and gestures
- Open Appearance settings and select an available skin or color.
- Find gesture controls under Playback.
- Change one setting at a time and test it on the Player screen.
- To change the section layout itself, use Edition or your build selection.
Appearance and gestures adapt to the way you prefer to use the player.
Sleep timer, alarm and automation
- For evening listening, open the sleep timer and choose when playback should stop.
- To wake up to music, open Alarms and set the time, days and your own music.
- Allow notifications and exact alarms if Android requests them.
- Run a short test before relying on the alarm in the morning.
- To start music when the app opens, find “Play on launch” under Automation.
The player performs the selected action under the conditions you set.
Save and transfer settings
- Find the save and transfer section in Settings.
- Tap “Save settings to file”, enter a name and select a folder.
- Transfer the file to your computer or another device.
- On the new device, choose “Restore settings from file”, open the saved file and read the confirmation.
- After restoring, restart the player if some settings have not yet taken effect.
The music itself is not included in the file. Restoring does not touch anything absent from the saved file.
Add a home-screen widget
- Open your phone launcher's widget picker, usually by pressing and holding an empty area of the home screen.
- Find the SHIKARDOS widget and place it on the screen.
- Find “Widget background” in the player Settings and set a suitable background opacity.
- Change sound and player settings in the app itself.
Playback controls are on the home screen; background transparency is set separately.
Go back or close the player
- To return to music, use the back arrow or bottom navigation.
- To stop the app completely, open Settings and find “Exit” under About.
- Newer phone builds also have “Close player” in the Settings header: confirm the exit if you want the music to stop.
A full exit stops music and removes player controls from the notification shade.
If something goes wrong: capture a log
- Note the device model, operating-system version and SHIKARDOS build.
- Reproduce the issue once, then immediately open Settings → save and transfer.
- Use “Capture log” or the available command for saving a log to a file.
- Describe what you opened, what you tapped, what you expected and what you saw. For a USB DAC, include its model and how it was connected.
- Review the material before sending: a log may contain your file and folder names.
You get a specific report with a log, rather than only “it doesn't work”.
“Player” and “Watch” Editions
- Use an available Edition that suits your screen.
- If you want a dedicated layout for an Android music player or watch, provide the device model and explain which controls matter most.
- Follow future release notes: a completed feature will be identified separately.
“Coming soon” indicates a development direction, not an installable feature already available.
